When it comes to baking, I really enjoy it.  Not only for my family but also baking for other people.

I consider it like a form of therapy.  The other plus is testing out the latest baking gadgets that make it more fun.

MY FAVORITE BAKING GADGETS

One of my favorite things to bake is chocolate chip cookies. Especially gooey, soft melt-in-your-mouth cookies. They are a household favorite.

I remember when I was growing up on the farm, my mother made chocolate chip cookies on a regular basis. I would sit and watch her make them and I could hardly wait until they came out of the hot oven so I could sit and savor each bite.

To this day, I always have a batch of chocolate chip cookies on-hand. When we have company, I often send them home with a bag of cookies, especially so I don’t eat them all.

I have tried many different recipes, and you probably have too, looking for the ultimate soft and chewy or sweet and salty chocolate chip cookie.

These are my top 5 favorite picks for best chocolate cookies from scratch.

1# – The Best Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies

The ultimate chocolate chip cookie, as far as I am concerned, is from a website or food blog called Pinch of Yum.  I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.  These are the absolute best chocolate chip cookies.

These cookies really deliver and I have made them more times than I can count. I love the soft buttery texture with the big chunks of dark chocolate but don’t take my word for it.

Make sure you follow the recipe and the instructions NOT TO OVERBAKE the cookies.  It took me two or three tries, but I finally got it right.  These cookies will be ready to eat in under 30 minutes and no chilling of the dough is necessary.

#2 – Dark Chocolate Chunk, Pistachio and Sea Salt Cookies

I stumbled upon this recipe quite by accident and I am so glad that I did. At first, I was not sure about the combination of pistachio and sea salt but WHOA…..was I wrong.

These cookies are easy to make with ingredients you probably already have on hand. The combination of salty and sweet really sets these cookies apart.

They are absolutely wonderful and you will have a hard time keeping these in the cookie jar. Believe me.

#3 – Sea Salt Butterscotch Pretzel Cookies

After thoroughly enjoying the cookies with the added touch of sea salt, I came across another recipe with sea salt.  This recipe uses butterscotch and chocolate chip morsels and with the added crunchiness of the pretzels, you have a surprisingly sweet/salty combo.

Browned butter adds a lot of depth and flavor to these cookies.  I added salted caramel chips along with the chocolate chips and it came out perfect and they were easy to make. They nicely keep their shape after baking and don’t spread out like some recipes I have used in the past.

The dough is a little stiffer so you have to get your hands in there to mix up the chocolate chip and pretzel chunks into the dough. The end result is worth the hard work though and you will keep coming back to this recipe as a favorite.

#4 – Brown Butter Bourbon Pecan Chocolate Chip Cookies

These cookies have a “secret ingredient” that adds a unique flavor. You will want to follow the recipe on browning the butter if you have not done this before but it’s pretty simple.  If you want chewy cookies you don’t want to over bake them either.

You will love the sweet, salty, gooey goodness that this cookie delivers.

#5 The Best Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies

No chocolate chip cookie recipe repertoire would be complete without the addition of oatmeal. Enough said, right!?

I love the nutty texture of the oats pared along with chocolate chips – a family old tradition.

These cookies can easily be made gluten-free by switching out your flour.

By using your favorite cookie scoop, these cookies will be ready in no time to go along with a nice cold glass of milk.
